I've sort of slacked on posting, time got away from me after I came back from my honeymoon. I wanted to recap my favorite new things of 2018 though, as I really enjoyed a lot of new releases! I'm only including new releases and not items that are new to me in the interest of keeping the list relatively short. (Though I did get into some older products like the Stila Glitter & Glow eyeshadows and Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum.)

belif Aqua Bomb Mist - I'm a big fan of the Aqua Bomb moisturizer...and the Moisturizing Eye Bomb...and of belif in general. I also really jumped onto the facial mist hype train this year, so it's no surprise I fell in love with the new belif Aqua Bomb Mist. It has the scent of the Aqua Bomb moisturizer, which I love. The mister is fine but not too fine, and the bottle is the perfect size to toss in my bag. I do wish you could buy one bottle at a time - the mist is sold in a two pack. Or rather, I wish you got more than one mister with the two pack, so you could split it with a friend!

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Jelly Sheet Mask - When it comes to sheet masks, I really prefer cheaper masks, as they're single use items. However, I sprung for the new Glow Recipe Watermelon sheet mask as a treat yourself item, and I really liked it! I found the mask deeply hydrating and soothing, with a decent fit. I've repurchased it a couple of times, but it isn't going to be a staple of my mask stash due to the price. I did really enjoy using it on a flight, as it was a less conspicuous option for some much needed hydration.

Bite Beauty French Press Lip Gloss - I've transitioned from a matte liquid lip person into more of a gloss person, and I know I'm not alone. This year, Bite Beauty released a line of coffee themed lip glosses, and I fell in love with them! Initially, I only picked up the shade Dirty Chai - it's that neutral pink shade I always go for, and I love a good chai! - but I also bought Salted Caramel after loving the first one. (I also love salted caramel in general, and salted caramel mochas.) The scent is a bit strong on the gloss, but as someone who doesn't mind the smell of coffee, it works for me. The gloss is hydrating, nicely pigmented, and doesn't feel sticky - a total winner in my book. (Except it's supposedly limited edition and I pray they never take it away!)

Glossier Lid Star - Although I don't fully buy in to the 'cool girl' makeup trend, I do enjoy having some low key makeup in my arsenal for easy days. The Glossier Lid Star is a great swipe and go eyeshadow that gives a slightly polished look. I've bought two shades, Moon and Cub, and am perfectly happy with both.

Glossier Lash Slick - I love trying out new mascaras, mostly because I have short, skinny lashes and am desperate for them to look amazing via mascara and not false lashes. I also love buying millennial-bait packaging like Glossier's. So a new, millennial pink mascara? I was THERE for it. Thankfully, it's a great product! The mascara formula is lengthening and the brush separates my lashes, giving me lashier eyes without weighing them down, like some volumizing formulas are wont to do. Am I a little miffed that it's $16 and online only? Sure, but I'm going to keep buying it.

YSL Touche Éclat All In One Glow - As my skin improves thanks to my (intensive? excessive?) skincare regimen, I've migrated towards using a sheerer base for my makeup. I always loved the (older) YSL Touche Éclat foundation so I decided to give this new one a try. It's a great tinted moisturizer - two pumps applied with my beautyblender is enough for light coverage. There's also the added bonus of that Touche Éclat scent that I can't get enough of...

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic blush in Pillow Talk - It was so, so hard not to buy both items from the new Pillow Talk release this year - thankfully, the eyeshadow quad will be back next year so there's much less FOMO happening on my end. Back to the blush - it's a beautiful pinky nude shade that I've been wearing constantly. The blush formula is light and blendable, and builds nicely. I'm not totally sold on the shimmery center - I don't like using it alone, and I prefer a matte or more satin blush, so I swirl my brush around the outside. But when I don't feel like highlighting, it's a good way to get some light on my face.

Melt Cosmetics Palettes - I am LOVING the new palettes that Melt has put out this year. I originally started with their Rust Stack and I liked the formula well enough, but these pressed palettes are something else. I got my hands on the Gemini (because green is my fave!), Twenty Seven (warm tones!), AND Smoke Sessions palettes (...more green!) and am happy with all three. My only complaint is that some of the shimmer shades are very soft and shatter in transit, but thankfully Melt has amazing customer service and replaced my broken Gemini palette for me.

I'm happy that a lot of products I bought worked out, as I'm trying to spend my money more consciously, and do more research before diving in. I also made more returns than I normally do this year in an effort to really find products I enjoy using and that work for me. I'm hoping that 2019 brings more new things - not too many, as I already have plenty!

I've always been "meh" on haircare, and I've decided to start trying a little harder when it comes to my hair. I recently switched to sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, mostly because I got a lot of rose gold highlights put in my hair earlier this year and I wanted to keep them looking nice. (Meanwhile, I still blast the hell out of it with my heavy duty hair dryer. Baby steps.)

On Instagram, one of the people I love to follow, Lena, started posting about Function of Beauty - a personalized shampoo and conditioner service. I watched as she got her order, started using it, and then read her rave reviews, so I decided to try it as well!

Function of Beauty offers personalized haircare - you pick and choose what you want in your shampoo and conditioner. When starting, you do a "hair quiz" that asks about your hair - straight or curly, thick or fine, etc. Then, you select five hair goals - these are all the specific ingredients you're adding to your custom hair cocktail. Here is everything that I specified in my hair quiz:

Hair Type

Wavy (my hair is barely wavy, but I wanted to see if I could emphasize the slight wave that I do have.)

Fine (I have super fine hair, it really sucks and I hate it.)

Oily (They tell you not to shampoo daily and I'm like why do you want me to look like I haven't showered in a week?)

Hair Goals

Volumize (If I don't do anything with my hair it is so so flat.)

Color Protection (Salon color ain't cheap!)

Thermal Protection (See aforementioned hair dryer comment.)

Shine (why not?)

Anti-Frizz (I figured it couldn't hurt.)

Another facet of your customization is scent and color. My favorite color is green, so I went with that - you can see the lovely jade/mint combo I wound up with! For scent, I went with "feeling (f)ineapple" (their most popular!) which is a coconut/pineapple combo. You can also choose how strong the scent is, I went with medium. (FYI they also have a fragrance free option for those who can't do fragrance.)

After submitting my order, it took about a week and a half to ship out and get to me. I also had to reach out to customer service due to my $5 coupon not being applied - they replied promptly and refunded me, so nothing but good things to say about their CS!

I've been using my custom products for about three months now, and I really like them. My hair looks and feels healthy, even when I try to fry it with my dryer. It's been hit or miss for me with sulfate free options, as they've either weighed my hair down or just didn't make my hair feel clean. My hair feels clean and light after shampooing. When I air dry, I don't really get much wave definition - I may swap out shine for curl definition in my hair goals next time. I LOVE the scent, I'm waffling between trying their peach or pistachio next. I'll definitely be switching to the strong fragrance option to see if it sticks around in my hair longer.

My two 8oz bottles came to $36. Next time, I think I'll order an 8oz shampoo and a larger conditioner - I find I use more conditioner as I have longer hair. I'm really happy I gave this a try. It's a little pricy, but I feel like my hair is healthier and looks better. If you'd like to try Function of Beauty and get $5 off, you can use my referral link. If you use this link, you'll get $5 off your first order, and I'll get $5 towards my next order!

I'm traveling to Hawaii for my honeymoon! It's a 12 hour flight, so that calls for some heavy duty inflight skincare. I've been amassing minis and foils specifically for this trip, and I wanted to share my routine.

The goal is to layer tons of thick hydrating layers to combat the dry, recycled cabin air. I'm not shy about sheet masking in public, so I made sure to include one. Even with TSA restrictions, I managed to get a decent routine into my carry on (thanks to having mini sample jars to scoop out less than photogenic samples of some of the products pictured.) Here's what I slathered on before trying to sleep for most of the flight:

Son and Park Beauty Water - I'm actually not in love with this cleansing water. It gets the job done, I guess, but I don't get the hype for this. However, this mini bottle I got is travel friendly, so I'll be doing a quick cleanse and rinse in the cabin restroom (i know, but I always rinse after a cleansing water!) with this to start.

belif Aqua Bomb Mist - Light and hydrating, a few spritzes of this will get me ready for the rest of my inflight routine! Also useful for refreshing my face periodically.

Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum - I thought a "pressed serum" would be super gimmicky, but I've totally bought into it. This serum leaves my skin supple and radiant, and the mini size is super convenient.

belif Peat Miracle Revital Eye Cream - This is my nighttime eye cream, and since planes are super dry, I wanted something heavier. I decanted a bunch into a tiny container for portability.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Jelly Sheet Mask - This mask is $8, so it's a definitely "treat yo'self" mask in my book - what better time to treat myself than enroute to my honeymoon? This mask leaves me hydrated and glowy, so it's perfect for the flight. Also, it's mostly clear - perfect for public masking!

belif Aqua Bomb Cream - One of my favorite gel creams! This really hydrates my skin without feeling heavy.

Cosrx Overnight Moisturizing Honey Mask - Another favorite, this is one of my most hydrating sleeping packs. It also adds a lot of glow. This got decanted into a tiny container, too.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask - Airplane dryness calls for something more heavy duty than a regular lip balm. A thick layer of this will keep lips hydrated for hours.

The last thing I wanted to do is start off a trip with skin that's freaking out, so a somewhat lengthy plane routine is kind of necessary. Could I have done without a few steps? Sure. But if it all fits into that 1 quart bag...why not?

September is still hot mostly, but the weather slowly changes at the end of the month to still be warm but less humid (finally!) Since my No Buy July ended, I've gotten some new things - and there's a few of them featured this month.

Bliss Deep Detox Four-clay Souffle Mask - I love a good clay mask. Not only is this clay mask great at helping clear up any nastiness, it does it while not drying the hell out of my skin! I like the mess free packaging, though it does seem like the little plug on the dispenser could break off at any time. I wear this for 10-15 minutes and rinse off, leaving behind fresh skin that hasn't been sucked dry. Bliss gifted this item to me, but all opinions are my own.

belif Aqua Bomb mist - I love the Aqua Bomb moisturizer, so it makes sense that I'd love the matching mist as well! This is relatively new from belif, and I bought it during the last Sephora VIB event. The package comes with two bottles of mist, which is super neat! (Only one mister though, or I'd have split it with a friend!) The mister itself is light with a good spray, two or three spritzes is enough for my whole face. The mist is hydrating and does not dry sticky. I've used it over bare skin and over makeup, and it works well for both!

Goodal Waterest Lasting Water Oil - I'm quickly running out of my second bottle of this. I've been using it morning and night, either right after cleansing or right after my actives before adding more hydrating layers. I definitely feel a difference in my skin's hydration when I forget to use it! I'll definitely be repurchasing again - this is perfect for my oily skin.

Glossier Lash Slick - I raved about this in my last month's favorites, and I'm still loving it. I've been wearing just mascara lately, and this mascara separated and lengthens my lashes perfectly. I hate that I love it, that damn Glossier gimmick gets me every time.

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic blush in Pillow Talk - I love the Pillow Talk liner and lipstick, so I had to get this the moment it came out! My first CT face product, and I'm really impressed. The blush ends up a little too shimmery if you swirl both shades together, but they play nicely if you use them separately as a highlight and blush. I don't think this will be replacing my HG Flesh and Fantasy blush, but I find myself reaching for this quite often!

I feel like this month had a good mix of old favorites and new discoveries! I am hoping as the weather cools, I'll get to try some new skincare to compensate, and start getting some holiday releases that I'll love. (Though those might have to wait til Christmas!)Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-17376732804898820412018-10-09T07:44:00.001-04:002018-10-09T07:44:25.943-04:00August 2018 Favorites!Better late than never, right? Life has been busy, and I took photos for my August favorites but never wrote the post!

iUNIK Centella Calming Gel Cream - I love a good, lightweight gel cream, and this one was lifesaving through the hot and humid month of August. Centella Asiatica (aka cica!) is the hot K-Beauty ingredient right now, known for soothing and redness relief. I found that this gel cream absorbed quickly and was light on the skin, but still left my skin feeling hydrated. It played nicely underneath my sunscreen, which is key for a daytime moisturizer. It was a bit too light for nighttime use, but it was great during the day! iUNIK sent me this product in exchange for an honest review.

Purito Centella Green Level Buffet Serum - Might as well move on to the other centella product I've been loving. I picked this one up from Beautytap as a way to incorporate more cica products into my routine. It's a lightweight serum that I've been using morning and evening. I've found that it's really been helping soothe redness, especially when I happen to have a pimple or two.

Bite Beauty French Press gloss in Dirty Chai - I obsessed over this shade the second Bite teased it. I purchased it at the beginning of August and have been wearing it constantly since! It's got a coffee scent that does fade, but the shade is a perfect MLBB for me. It's non sticky, pigmented, and lightly hydrating. I bought a second shade, and with these two and Fenty Gloss Bomb, all of my gloss prayers have been answered. (For now, at least.)

YSL Touche Eclat All-in-One Glow - I get really gross in the summer, and although I love makeup, I wanted something lighter for my foundation. I fell in love with this formula after getting a sample of Sephora. Not only is it lightweight with a wonderful natural finish, it has that Touche Eclat fragrance that I CANNOT get enough of. Unfortunately, this doesn't play well with some sunscreen/primer combinations, but I've been making it work with Too Faced Hangover Rx and setting with Laura Mercier Translucent powder. It isn't the best in terms of oil control, but it looks very dewy and fresh.

Glossier Lash Slick - I hate when I get sucked into Glossier's cool girl aesthetic. It happens a lot. Sometimes it doesn't work out (looking at you, Solution!) but then with Lash Slick...it works out too well. This separates and defines my lashes while adding length. I have short lashes that need more length than volume, and this delivers. It takes a bit of work to remove (specifically targeting the lashes with remover and a cotton pad) but it looks really good, and that's what matters!Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-16752976666909895172018-08-23T22:43:00.000-04:002018-08-23T22:44:38.812-04:00Sephora Staples - What I Love & RecommendSephora is revamping their Beauty Insider program, and they're having a sale to celebrate! I've been planning my cart for a few weeks now, and am excited to pick up a few new things. I wanted to share some of my favorite products that I've purchased at Sephora. These are all staple items in my collection, and I have nothing but glowing recommendations to give.
Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminzer in Fenty Glow ($18) - otherwise known as "Gloss Bomb" because that name is ridiculous. I've had this almost since it came out (almost a year ago!) and I recommend it to everyone, and even give it as a gift if it's appropriate! The gloss is lightweight, non sticky, and perfect to just swipe on and go.

belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb ($38) - This is my favorite gel cream right now. It's light yet extremely hydrating, plays well under sunscreen and makeup, and doesn't bother my oily skin. I don't use it consistently because of the price tag, but I reach for it at least 2-3 times a week. You can get a smaller tub for $22, too!

IGK First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo ($14) - The full size is $38, but my travel size has been lasting me ages. I have very fine hair that gets greasy easily. Not only does this dry shampoo absorb oil with a small amount of product, it gives my hair a volume boost and a decent amount of texture. The only drawback to me is the price tag.

Saturday Skin Daily Dew Hydrating Essence Mist ($34) - I've recently fully boarded the skin mist hype train, and this is a newer addition to my collection. I've taken to using this as apart of a quick morning routine - 2-3 spritzes provides some decent moisture I can then seal in with my final layer. It's a little pricy, however. Also, the cap is kind of flimsy and cracked with one drop onto the floor (just the cap, I didn't even drop the whole bottle!) The packaging is adorable, though.

Viseart Neutral Mattes palette ($80) - I know, it's expensive. But it's so, so worth it - I promise. After I got this and the Warm Mattes palette, I destashed a TON of my other matte palettes. My go-to easy look is blown out neutral mattes with a little bit of shimmer on the lid, and I can do more than a handful of variations of that with just this one palette. I've also traveled with it and had no problems - the packaging isn't the fanciest, but it is sturdy.

Stellar Limitless Foundation ($38) - Another somewhat recent addition to my collection - I was recommended this foundation a while ago, and didn't get to try it until March. I got a sample and LOVED it! This foundation has a buildable light/medium coverage, and doesn't break down with my oily skin. It has a natural finish that doesn't look flat when set with a matte powder. It isn't exactly cheap, but it is on the cheaper end of Sephora foundation offerings.

Marc Jacobs Air Blush in Flesh and Fantasy ($42) - As you can see from the serious dent and pan, I love this blush. It's light, has a lovely slightly satin but mostly natural finish, and blends like a dream. I want more shades, but the price tag is a bit much. But the pan is huge and I've been using this nonstop for over a year, so the investment is definitely worth it. Between this blush and the Viseart palette...countless faces have been put together.

Bite Beauty French Press lip gloss in Dirty Chai ($22) - Last but certainly not least, is my favorite new new product! I'm loving this new gloss from Bite, and have another in my cart for the sale. The gloss is non sticky, light, and is hydrating on the lips. The coffee scent is definitely strong at first, but it dissipates for the most part. I just wish they weren't limited edition...and you got a bit more product for the price. ($22 for 0.15 oz, as compared to the Fenty gloss at $18 for 0.30 oz.)

I do, however, love seeing repeat products on other peoples' favorite lists, so I don't feel bad doing that with mine. It's been hot and gross here all month, so my favorites include some products that compliment summer weather.

Colourpop Brow Boss - Colourpop puts out lots of products, and not all are amazing. But when they get it right, they get it right! I really like this brow gel - the brush is small, the gel isn't crunchy, and it keeps my brows in place. Even better - it's $6. I have this in clear, which I use to keep my brows in check on days I also fill them with a pencil.

NARS Pore & Shine Control Primer - I know I've raved about this in the past, but it really stands out when the weather is humid and heavy. This keeps my makeup from breaking apart when it's gross out. It plays nicely over sunscreen and under most of my foundations, and doesn't feel heavy on the skin. This is my third tube, and I will continue to repurchase until I come across something even better.

Clinique Nude Pop - Another repeat pick! This blush has been great to pair with a bold summer lip, as it adds a hint of natural flush and that's it. It's got a soft sheen that isn't glittery. I like that I can really load this on without it being too over the top. Also I really dig my brush in there and I still haven't hit pan! The packaging is really easy to keep clean, meaning the product doesn't get gross looking when I use it constantly.

Nailtiques Formula 2 - I have had so many issues with my nails breaking. I started using this and the majority of my nails have become much stronger, with no breaks! It smells pretty strong, unfortunately, but it gets the job done. I am hoping the last couple of nails with side tears strengthen up soon.

Ulta Beauty Juice Infused Lip Oil - I got this sometime last year, and just now started using it more often. This is a little thicker than a gloss, but it isn't sticky. I've been using this with bold eye looks to keep my lips polished yet not make my look too intense. I find it to be super hydrating, too! The flavor I have is Green Tea & Avocado, though I don't see it listed anymore. It applies fully clear, meaning it can go with any look.

My no buy is over, so maybe I'll have some new new favorites next month! In the meantime, I'll just keep waiting for this humidity to break.Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-82633125013669521772018-07-08T15:06:00.004-04:002018-07-08T15:06:51.482-04:00June 2018 Favorites! It's beginning to feel a lot like summer...hot and sticky! I'm not the biggest fan of summer, but I have learned to adapt to get through it. Like many others, I switch to lighter products that don't feel heavy on the skin, and break out brighter, more fun colors. My favorites for June include a few of these summer essentials!

Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream - A staple in my summer skincare routine! This gel cream is super light, with the added benefit of snail mucin. It plays well under sunscreen which is key. It's also super affordable, though my last purchase of two tubes doubled in price. (But $16 for two is still cheaper than most skincare!)

Hakuhodo J210 - For some reason, I almost never highlight my brushes in my favorites. I've had this brush for a while, but it had fallen out of favor for a more angled blush brush. It's recently been back in rotation - I've been doing a more concentrated blush placement lately, and this brush is perfect for that! (Also I swear it's relatively clean here, it just holds a lot of product since it's super dense!)

Colourpop Lux Lipstick in Dream Easy - This is one of the (relatively) newer lipstick releases from Colourpop. I'm in love with the easy to wear bright pink! The lipstick formula itself is great for the price - I only say that because it's slightly drying and does transfer, but I still really enjoy it, especially for $7! I find this easy to apply and re-apply throughout the day. I also love the packaging, and the star imprints on the lipstick itself!

Colourpop Brow Boss Gel - Another Colourpop item! I love how their products really deliver, especially at such an affordable price point. This gel keeps my brow hairs in place without making them hard or crunchy. The packaging is also light and sleek, always a plus.

IGK First Class Charcoal Detox dry shampoo - I really hate how much I love this, mostly because it's pretty expensive for a dry shampoo. ($27 for a full size.) I intend on milking this mini bottle for as long as I can! That being said, this is the best dry shampoo I've tried. It's a darker spray, which means no white stuff in my darker hair. My hair is fine and is easily weighed down by any greasiness, and this dry shampoo addresses that problem beautifully. After use, my hair doesn't feel greasy, weighed down, or gritty from the dry shampoo itself. It imparts a nice amount of texture and boost to my roots. It's become a lifesaver for me this summer! Thankfully, a little goes a long way so I won't need to repurchase too soon!

July and August will be even more hot and heavy than June, so I hope to keep thee in rotation and supplemented with other light and het-friendly products. I'm looking forward for the end of summer, but can't wait to see what it brings along the way!Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-8914686529230209152018-06-25T21:13:00.000-04:002018-06-25T21:13:17.044-04:00Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Tencel & Midnight Blue Calming Sheet Masks - ReviewKlairs recently released some sheet masks! I'm new to Klairs products - I got the famous Supple Preparation Toner for Christmas but haven't opened it yet, and recently got the Rich Moist Soothing Serum which I really like. I was placing an order over at Beautytap and tossed these into my cart to try! (...and to help reach the free shipping threshold.) I shared some mini reviews on Instagram, but I wanted to talk more about these two masks.
Description: Everything you love about Klairs’ Rich Moist line, now in a soothing, cooling, calming mask, perfect for sensitive, troubled, or reactive skin types. (source, Beautytap.com)

Ingredients: Water, Butylene glycol, glycerin, 1,2-hexanediol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycereth-26, Propanediol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Panthenol, Betaine, Allantoin, Cellulose, Hydroxyethyl cellulose, Sodium hyaluronate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hydrogenated lecithin, Ceramide NP, Ceramide NS, Ceramide AP, Ceramide AS, Ceramide EOP, Phytosphingosine, Cholesterol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Carbomer, Arginine, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Acetate, PVM/MA Copolymer, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Glyceryl Acrylate/ Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin (source, Beautytap.com)

Reading the description, this mask isn't usually what I go for. I do like hydrating mask, but my skin isn't reactive or sensitive. I have tried the Rich Moist serum and really like it for a big hydration boost, so I was hoping to get the same from this mask. Key ingredients for this mask are Centella Asiatica/cica, ceramides, and aloe.

The mask itself is in two pieces with plenty of side slits, which I found to help fit my face better. The mouth and eye holes were a bit big for my liking, and the nose was long. The Tencel mask fabric was a little bit thicker than I prefer, but it was able to cling to my face just fine. The mask had a decent amount of essence without being drippy, and dried out in the forehead area after 30 minutes. The overlapping areas of the two halves stayed damp longer than the chin and forehead areas. I didn't experience any cooling sensation during wear.

After removing the mask, my skin was lightly hydrated - nothing to write home about. I didn't notice any serious calming, as I still had some redness in my face. There was a small amount of leftover essence left on my face that was not sticky, and was patted into the skin with no issue. The next morning, my face didn't really feel any more hydrated than normal. I didn't have any adverse reaction to the mask, which was a plus!

Review - 3/5 (okay fit, decent amount of essence, just okay mask fabric, did not feel it delivered fully on claims, no negative reactions.)
Midnight Blue Calming Sheet Mask

Fit of the Midnight Blue Calming mask!

Description: Everything you love about Klairs Midnight Blue line, now in a calming, cooling sheet mask! Formulated with cooling ingredients to treat overheated skin, this special rayon sheet mask infused with bamboo charcoal powder is the perfect daily mask for oily skin types. (source, Beautytap.com)

Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Methylpropanediol, Glycereth-26, 1,2 Hexanediol, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Glycerin, Erythritol, Arginine, Carbomer, Carrageenan, Betaine, Allantoin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Propanediol, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, PVM/MA Copolymer, Disodium EDTA, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Centella Asiatica Extract (source, Beautytap.com)

From the description, this sounds right up my alley! I have oily skin, and charcoal has helped me in the past. I haven't used anything else from the Midnight Blue line, so I can't really compare this mask to those products. Key ingredients for this mask are Centella Asiatica/cica, tea tree leaf oil, and willow bark extract, along with the bamboo charcoal in the fabric of the mask.

The cut and fit of the mask is the same as the Rich Moist Soothing mask. As expected, it's a black mask thanks to the bamboo charcoal! I did not like the fabric - it was thicker than I like, though it clung to my face with no issues. The mask had plenty of essence, and was not so over soaked that it was drippy during wear. The mask claims to be cooling - I did not experience any cooling sensation. I wore the mask for 30 minutes before the forehead and chin started to dry out.

After removing the mask, my skin was so clear and bright! All signs of redness had been taken care of - I had a few problem pimples that looked much calmer. My skin felt lightly hydrated - nothing super impressive, but better than just quickly layering some products on. I was able to pat in the leftover essence, and it did not feel sticky. The next morning, I noticed no new breakouts which is always a relief! My face was still hydrated. Over the course of the day, I saw less oil breaking through my makeup which is always a welcome effect of new products.

Review - 4/5 (okay fit, decent amount of essence, just okay mask fabric, delivered on most claims and I saw positive results.)

Out of the two masks, I would probably only purchase the Midnight Blue again. I think it's better suited for my skin type, and I got more visible results after using it. $3 a mask is more than I like to pay, and I expect decent results when I do! I'm happy I bought both to try, and I'm happy they weren't total duds! I'm looking forward to trying more Klairs products (maybe opening that toner!) in the future.)Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-30729919051144061972018-06-16T10:46:00.001-04:002018-06-16T10:46:06.979-04:00April Empties & Reverse Rouge Check In

Why yes, I have been slacking on my empties...it's June and I'm just now getting April's together. To be fair, tallying empties is my least favorite thing (mostly because I'm awful at math!) April had a lot of sales, so my shopping was a bit excessive in comparison to other months. This was also a light month for empties, so the shopping may have had more of an impact on my overall Reverse Rouge numbers.

A lot of these are things I usually have empties of, but I'll highlight a few items:

The Body Shop Himalayan Clay mask packet - I bought this because I loooove the GlamGlow white mask but refuse to shell out for it. This mask looked and felt similar! I was happy that the packet was available instead of just springing for a full size, even though the full size of this is much more affordable. I might actually get a full size when I go through some other masks!

Smashbox Always On liquid lipstick mini in Driver's Seat - How often do you finish a liquid lipstick? I know it's a mini, but I'm super proud of finishing this! I got this in Sephora Play sometime last year, and really liked it. The formula is light and comfortable, and doesn't feel drying. I bought a full size after I finished this mini.

Lush Sleepy cream - I fell in love with this cream after the first use. I don't coat my whole body in it (too expensive for that!), I use it on my upper chest at bedtime to help me relax. I bought a full size tub off my friend who was destashing it, I loved it so much! I'm not a big ~aromatherapy~ person, but the scent does get me ready to relax and go to bed.

Cosrx Blackhead Remover Mr.RX Kit - I recieved this from Cupidrop & Cosrx along with another product for review. It's basically a pore strip, which are so bad for your skin but suuuuuper satisfying. I put a whole play by play on my Instagram if you're interested, but the short version is I won't buy this again because yes, they are bad for your skin.

Even with a ton of shopping, I'm coming out ahead! I'm excited to hit the $1k goal for just empties soon, it's amazing how much product I go through consistently. (Of course, a lot of it is one off things like masks, but still!) I'm excited to see how everything adds up at the end of the year!

I can't believe we're already five months through the year! I feel like time is moving quickly every year, though. I have another month of favorites, with some returning items and some new purchases!

I have two products that appeared on my list of April favorites:

Cosrx Two in One Poreless Power Liquid - I'm still really loving this as a maintenance product for my large pores. This can be used daily (at least on my skin!) due to the slightly higher pH level than a regular BHA exfoliant. I usually use this 3-4 times a week when I'm not using a more heavy duty BHA. I'm still super happy I was able to try this! (Thanks again to Cupidrop!)

Stellar Limitless Foundation - It hasn't gotten gross out yet, so I'm still enjoying the natural finish this foundation gives me. Paired with a more mattifying primer, my skin doesn't turn into an oil slick. I'll have to see how this holds up when the humidity really kicks in, but I'll be picking it up again come cooler weather.

And now for three newer products! (Or rather, products that may be new or just weren't on last month's list specifically.)

Cirque Colors Succulent Garden - I purchased this during the Earth Day sale Cirque had back in April after having my eye on it for a while. It's beautiful - a sage green with a red shift and light sparkle. Perfect for spring! My nails go 5+ days without chipping or significant tip wear, which is impressive because I am always typing.

Clinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop - The Cheek Pop formula is amazing - pigmented and blendable with just a hint of a satin looking sheen. Ginger Pop can be a bit intense on me, but I buff it out or mix it with another shade. The bright coral pink is perfect for spring and summer. (Not to mention it goes with a ton of my lipsticks!)

Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum - I bought this at Lovue during a blogger event last month. I really enjoy using this in the morning, as it packs a big hydration punch in just one product. It's a thicker serum that doesn't take too long to sink in, but really hydrates my skin. I think someone with dry skin would really love this, but it isn't too heavy for my oily skin. Key ingredients are centella asiatica extract, licorice root Extract, grapefruit extract, lemon peel oil, and lavender oil. Lots of soothing and hydrating goodies!

The weather will start to get hit and sticky soon...I'm sure I'll start featuring my go-to summer products in the coming months! I'm always on the lookout for mattifying products, so hopefully I can feature something new.Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-42201616671976504102018-05-11T00:16:00.000-04:002018-05-11T00:16:26.281-04:00Cupidrop x Lovue New York Blogger EventLast month, I received an invitation to check out a new K-Beauty shop opening up in Manhattan from the lovely people over at Cupidrop. Since I love skincare and shopping, and a good trip to New York, I accepted the invite. I took a half day from work, drove to Jersey City and took the Path into Manhattan, and entered KTown for an afternoon of mingling and swatching.

The new shop, Lovue (pronounced love you, so cute!) is right on 5th avenue in Koreatown. It's a block away from the 33rd St. Path station, making it super convenient for those coming from Jersey like me! I was a little early, so I went and got Starbucks (mostly so I could use the bathroom...) and happened upon an Amazon Books store. It was actually pretty neat, there were no listed prices - you just scanned the barcode and see what the price is on Amazon, and that's what you pay! Did some browsing and headed back over to Lovue for the start of the event.

I apologize in advance for the photos, I only had my phone with me!

The storefront! It is so, so cute.

The front of the store is super cute and super inviting! After walking in, I was greeted by a ton of staff and one of the ladies from Beauteers (the genius team behind Cupidrop), Jenny, gave me a name tag. After greeting people, I had time to take in what I had walked into.

The store from the second floor!

My first thought? OVERWHELMING! So many products, K-Pop blasting, giant screens where they played K-Pop videos, it was intense! I must have done 4-5 laps around the store just picking things up and putting them down. The store stretches pretty far back, I was shocked at how large it was! The best part about being able to check out the store the day before opening is that everything is so neat on the shelves, and testers aren't destroyed. The layout of the store is aesthetically pleasing - most of it is done by brand, but then there are walls of sheet masks and areas specific to a certain skincare step. Everything was arranged nicely - I saw a lot of color grouping. They had a large sink in the back for hand washing, and they even had some of the hand soap available for sale to try out at the sink. The store has several large, lighted mirrors as well.

Sheet mask overload!

Lovue has a ton of brands in stock, I saw the following:

Cosrx

Klairs

Graymelin

Papa Recipe

Mizon

Innisfree

Thank You Farmer

Missha

belif

Huxley

Scinic

JOne

Benton

Neogen

Mediheal

Elizavecca

...and a bunch more. Some brands only had sheet masks, while other brands had most of the entire line available. Some lines only had certain products - Cosrx had most everything aside from the super new releases, and their sheet masks. I didn't, however see any of the luxury K-Beauty brands like Sulwhasoo in stock. Prices were relatively fair, I think the only super outrageous markup I saw was belif creams going for $56, which outstrip Sephora's prices by a bit. The prices aren't as good as ordering from Korea, but they were definitely doable. Most sheet masks were between $2-$7, and boxes of masks were between $20-$30, all depending on brand. I think it's an okay tradeoff to not have to wait for shipping.

There was a second floor where snacks and drinks were being served. (The bulgogi was soooo good!) The Lovue team and the Beauteers team both thanked everyone for coming. They also whipped out an impressive gift box! The store team also let everyone know that there was 20% off store wide for the length of the event, which got a lot of people (myself included) very excited.

Being on a diet sucks, but I had a few bites!

I must say, the store did get very warm during the event, with 30someodd bloggers and staff hanging out on the second floor. Of course, the first floor was cooler, so I spent a decent amount of time browsing and putting things into my basket. The store staff was super helpful, and they were all very excited to help pick out and suggest products. I definitely did a little bit of damage, but it was 20% off, so it wasn't toooo bad.
I'm very excited to try both the Bizoo sheet masks and the A. True cream! A. True had some other products that looked good, so I'll have to check them out another time. Clearly the best gift was the $50 IN FREE FOOD!!! I can't wait to check the restaurant out.

It was really, really hard not to go wild in the store, they had SO MUCH STUFF! I have a lot of unopened skincare, so I kept myself in check. Here's what I wound up with:

Peripera Airy Ink Velvet in Elf Light Rose - Everyone raves about these, and three ladies in the shop recommended them. I was glad for the chance to swatch them!

Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum - I wanted a serum or an essence, and this felt the best on my skin from the ten (at least!) I tried.

Every Helloskin Jumiso mask they had.

A'pieu falsies - I love East Asian brands of lashes, since I have small eyes and they usually run smaller/more natural.

Ultru I'm Sorry For My Skin Relaxing and Pore Care jelly masks

Package foot peel - this was cheaper than my usual TonyMoly so I'm excited to see if it's as good!

Holika Holika After Working Overtime sheet mask - I actually have a lot of OT scheduled (including this weekend) so this just happened to work out for me.

SNP Bird's Nest Aqua Ampoule sheet mask - Faceonomics raves about it so I wanted to try it.

I could go back and buy a million more sheet masks. My wishlist grew five miles today! I'm really excited to try all these new masks - some of the ladies at the store suggested a few, and they all had great skin soooo...why not?

Lovue is located at 324 5th Ave in Manhattan. Thank you again to everyone in the store and the crew at Beauteers for inviting me! It was a wonderful time - I will definitely drop in next time I'm in the city!
As much as I like having reliable products that I always reach for, it's also nice to have new things to play with! This month's favorites has a bunch of "new" stuff - some isn't truly new because I got it for Christmas. But between spring sales and some generous PR, I have some new products to talk about!

Papa Recipe Bombee Rose Gold Honey sheet mask - I had been wanting to try these for ages, and finally got a pack of them under the Christmas tree. I started using them recently, and I LOVE them! The light honey scent, the gold honeycomb on the mask sheet...all wonderful. The best part of these, of course, is the result - hydrated skin with a beautiful glow that lasts until the next morning.

Lime Crime Plushies in Milk Tea - These are a new offering from Lime Crime - they're a somewhat sheet lip stain. I have been all about stains and glosses lately (and matte lipstick, and regular cream lipstick...I'm just all about lipstick!) so this was really intriguing. I was patient and waited for some swatches and reviews before purchasing. One of my friends got this shade and sent me some snaps and it looked good on her, so I added it to my Ulta coupon cart! It's really lightweight and comfortable on the lips. I wore it three times in the first week I had it, so it definitely was a favorite of mine this past month! I want to get some more shades to see if they're just as good.

Cosrx Two in One Poreless Power Liquid - This is a brand new release from Cosrx! It contains Willow Bark Water and BHA to unclog pores and help with oil production. I haven't been using it for too long, but the results I've had so far have been great. My any visible pimples were significantly reduced and less red. I've used it multiple nights in a row with no effects of over exfoliation. I am so excited to see continued results as I use this. This was provided to me for review by Cupidrop. All opinions are my own.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask - Another Christmas item! I had seen tons and tons of rave reviews about this, so I added it to my wishlist. What a wonderful stocking stuffer! I've been really using it over the last month, it's perfect to prep lips for super matte lipsticks the next day, or to repair dried out lips. It's a little heavy feeling but I wake up with super smooth, hydrated lips. I love the fruity berry scent, too. Also, this jar will probably last me the next 600 years since a little bit of product goes a long way.

Stellar Limitless Foundation - I tried this based off of a recommendation, and I'm so glad I did! I looked everywhere to get a sample of this, and finally tracked it down in store while I was in Las Vegas. After trying the sample, I knew I needed the full size! This foundation applies smoothly, blends beautifully, and has a wonderfully natural finish. I don't have too much issue with oil provided I powder and use a mattifying primer. The packaging is also super lightweight, yet sleek. It comes with a pump, which I always appreciate. Excited to see how this wears during the warmer months!

I am so happy to have new things to play with! I got a ton of new stuff in April, so May will probably have more new favorites as well!Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-28564733491082355442018-04-28T07:00:00.000-04:002018-04-28T07:00:33.707-04:00Recent Purchases & Acquisitions!

April means lots of spring sales (because it's also tax season! Gotta spend that refund!) (I did not spend my refund on this stuff.) so I was able to get some new goodies. I had posted earlier about what I was planning to buy with my various coupon codes, and here are all the shiny new things! I also included some new items purchased not from Sephora/Ulta, and some PR goodies.

I'm going to break everything down by category just to keep it as simple as possible - there's a lot here! Just going to share a little bit about why I purchased each one. I will hopefully be doing more thorough reviews of most of these down the line!

Makeup

Stellar Limitless Foundation - Picked this up after having it recommended to me and trying a sample.

YSL Tatouage Couture in Nude Emblem - I like the other one of these I have, and I think this will make a great everyday shade!

YSL Volupte Liquid Color Balm in Undress Me Coral - This looks like it could be the perfect summer lip formula.

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle lipstick in S1ngle - I really loved Spanked so I decided to get another shade!

Sephora #lipstories in All Washed Up - One of my friends got this and it looked amazing on her! Also, it was only $8.

LA Girl Shady Slim brow pencil - Another friend got this and recommended it. I'm all about cheap brow products, so I'm excited to give it a try!

Lime Crime Plushies in Milk Tea - I have been loving lip stains lately, so when LC released these I wanted to try this shade. It seems to be a good everyday shade.

Colourpop Super Shock Cheek in Drop of a Hat - I haven't tried a shimmery squishy blush yet, and this looks like a nice shade for warm weather.

Colourpop clear brow gel - Can't go wrong with clear brow gel.

Colourpop eyeshadow pans in La Playa and Slay-Farer - I had been looking for Urban Decay's Deep End shadow, and saw that Slay-Farer is close, and much cheaper. Had to get La Playa because I can't turn down a mint shadow!

Colourpop Lux lipsticks in Reverie and Dream Easy - I hadn't yet tried the Lux lipstick formula, so I got some spring/summer shades.

Skincare

Make P:rem In Shower Face Pack - I saw this at Target for $12 and had to! I had tried it in the past and really liked it.

Bliss What-a-Melon overnight mask - My friend Jessica got this and said it was great, so I wanted to give it a try!

Philosophy Purity Made Simple moisturizer - Jessica also got this, and recommended it. I tried it in store and it reminded me of my beloved Clinique gel so I wanted to try it.

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal clay mask sample - I want to see if this is as good as the GlamGlow clay mask I love but refuse to buy.

The Body Shop Japanese Matcha clay mask sample - I love green tea stuff!

Cosrx Two in One Poreless Power Liquid - This was actually sent to me for review from Cupidrop. I love Cosrx and am excited to use this!

Biossance Squalane + Phyto-Retinol serum - I've heard good things about squalane in skincare routines. I got a (very generous) sample of this in store at Sephora, and noticed my skin was much brighter, so I got the full size during the sale!

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate - 100 point perk! I love mini skincare.

Hair & Body

Drybar Southern Belle - Another 100 point perk! I love volumizing sprays so I'm excited to give this a go.

The Body Shop Piñita Colada shower gel - I loved the chai one I had (and am finishing up) over the winter so I decided to go for a summer scent.

That's all of it! It seems like a lot...and I guess it is. Certainly a lot of lip products - seven in total! I've destashed a bunch so hopefully these get lots of love! I will hopefully be sharing more thoughts about all these new things soon.

I haven't gone overboard at all, even this month with the sales and coupons going on. Earlier this year I didn't have enough new stuff for separate repurchases and purchases, but this month I do! I love talking about items I repurchase, and what makes them good enough to be bought again and again.

Skincare is probably the type of product I go through the most quickly, which is no surprise. I like many step routines, and I'm frequently changing products out and trying new things. I have come across several "holy grail" staples, one of which is the Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream. Unfortunately, there's a rumor that this has been discontinued - I had bought a two pack of these last year for $8ish, and this two back was over double that. I love layering this as a final moisturizing step over lots of light hydration layers. I'll be sort of devastated it if it's really gone, but at least I still have two tubes left! Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel is my favorite light moisturizer, so I had to pick up the mini 100 point perk from Sephora while it was there.

Applying a lot of skincare means I go through a lot of cotton pads, and the Shiseido Facial Cottons are my favorite! Truly feels like a cloud on the face. I haven't found something that compares yet. I also bought a new bottle of Goodal Waterest Lasting Water Oil! I like facial oils, but sometimes they're too heavy for me - this is perfect. The packaging has changed since my last bottle, and I like it much more.

I do go through makeup regularly, but since there's so many options out there, I don't repurchase things as often. I do, however, repurchase staple items a lot. I picked up a new jar of the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder as it's my favorite setting powder. I also bought a new bottle of MAC Fix+ which I love to set my makeup with - I have no idea why it works so well, but I love it! I also repurchased the Too Faced Hangover Rx primer, which has become my new favorite hydrating primer. I tried some other hydrating/illuminating primers, and they just don't give me the same performance. Also, they didn't smell like coconut!

Aside from base products, I run through brow stuff pretty quickly, since I do my brows daily. Ulta had half off of the ABH Brow Wiz, so I picked one up - I refuse to pay full price for it. (The spoolie usually breaks off, I don't understand paying $20+ for something that will break!) I don't love it as much as I remember - it's good, but I prefer the NYX pencil.

I never (okay, very rarely) finish lipsticks. However, I loved Smashbox's Always On liquid lip in Driver's Seat so much that I cleaned out the mini I had and promptly bought a full size. I also bought a backup of Urban Decay's Vice lipstick in Wonderland - it was recently discounted to half off, and that means it might be discontinued soon. It's my ideal deep bright summer pink, so I wanted a second on hand as I will eventually go through the tube I have now.

I never remember to change out my lash curler pads, so I bought a two pack of Shiseido curler pads. A boring purchase, but a necessary one! I can really tell the difference a new pad makes.

For most of these items, it's my third time or more repurchasing. I really love having reliable products in my stash, it makes my routines so much easier!Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-69548576928297577692018-04-12T11:02:00.000-04:002018-04-12T11:02:38.564-04:00Spring Sales - Planned Purchases From Sephora & Ulta

It's that time again - Sephora spring sale time! Sephora offers 15% off for VIB and VIB Rouge members in April, along with 10% off for all Beauty Insider members. It's not as good as the holiday 20% off, but ti's something! Sephora is pricey, so I know a lot of people, myself included, plan larger purchases around these coupons. I've been adding and removing items from my cart since last month in anticipation!

Along with the Sephora sale, Ulta usually issues a 20% off Prestige coupon in early April. The coupon usually coincides with the end of their 21 Days of Beauty event. The coupon was mailed out today (4/12) and I've been (not so) patiently waiting with a full cart for about a week now. However, I seem to get every Ulta email BUT these emails, so I am waiting to hear back from them about my code.

Sine I've been focusing on low buying and using what I have, I've been pretty particular about what's going into my carts. A lot of the items are repurchases, or trying something new in place of a product I'm almost out of. I also love seeing what other people are planning on getting, so I wanted to share what I'm looking forward to pulling the trigger on!

Definite Purchases - these items have been in my cart the entire time. I am going to buy them, and have budgeted accordingly!

Stellar Limitless Foundation in S02 - I got a sample of this while I was in Vegas and I loved it! I finished up my MUFE foundation, so this will fill that slot.

Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder - my HG finishing powder. I went through my last one pretty quickly, but it's the only setting powder I have right now. I'm finishing the last one up just in time for a sale repurchase!

Shiseido Eyelash Curler Pad - I don't know when the last time I replaced the pad in my curler is. That's pretty bad. Time for a new one.

Potential Purchases - these are the items that I keep putting in and taking out. I'd like them, but I don't need them. My thinking is I should get them now with the discount if I do decide to go for it.

Sephora Collection #Lipstories Lipstick in All Washed Up - my friend Jamie has this and it looks amazing on her. It's a deep bright pink, which I know I love. It's also $8. This is most likely going to be purchased, but it's cheap enough that if I pass now, I won't hate myself for it.

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle lipstick in S1ngle - I LOVE the Mattemoiselle I have in Spanked, and this is another shade I'd wear. This lipstick is a little more expensive, so I might get it while there's a coupon code.

IGK First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo mini - I've wanted to try this dry shampoo for a while, since it has charcoal and my hair can get pretty greasy. I know the full size is a better deal, but it's out of stock. I also don't need any dry shampoo right now, so this could definitely wait.

Stretch Items - things I'd like to try but don't need. They probably won't wind up being purchased, but left on my Loves List for the time being.

Biossance Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum - I've heard good things about Biossance and squalane products in general. I want to try it, but it's $78. Ideally I'd get it with a coupon, but this may be blowing my budget juuuust a bit.

Ouai Volume Spray - I'd been waiting for Ouai to come out with a volumizing spray! I currently have a pretty full product, so I don't need this right now. I will probably try it down the road.

Herbivore Jasmine Green Tea Balancing Toner - I have such a backlog of skincare stuff right now that I can't honestly justify this as a purchase. I do want to try it, and it's been on my Loves List for what feels like ages!

Tarte Knockout Tingling Treatment - I've heard this is a good replacement for Sunday Riley Good Genes, which I really love. But I have some other exfoliants to use up first, and I even have a mini Good Genes I should get through before trying this. It's a Sephora Exclusive right now, so that's why I'd consider getting it with the sale.

LA Girl Shady Slim Brow Pencil - It's cheap and I've heard good things! I want to compare it with the NYX Micro Brow that I usually use.

Goodal Waterest Lasting Water Oil - A repurchase! I finished mine a little while ago and it gives great light hydration. It's $30, so I'd rather pay for it with a coupon + points combo.

Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Driver's Seat - I have a mini of this and love the shade. It's just about done, so I'm buying a full size! I'd say this counts as a repurchase.

Shiseido Facial Cottons - stocking up!

Too Faced Hangover primer - I finished mine a while ago and really liked it as a hydrating primer. I've tried a few others and didn't like them as much, so I'm happily repurchasing this one.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Wonderland - This is one of my favorite bright pink shades, and it seems like it's on its way out the door. It's marked down to $8.50, so I'm buying a backup of it now.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple moisturizer - I'm almost out of my Clinique gel cream moisturizer, my HG. I was originally going to repurchase that, until I tried this new Philosophy one in store. It feels similar, and is the same size bottle for $2 less. I'm going to give it a try and see how it goes.

The Body Shop Matcha & Himalayan Charcoal mask sachets - I've heard good things about both of these masks, and at $2.50 a pack, they're worth a shot! One will actually be free due to a BOGO offer, which is even better.

The Body Shop Piñita Colada Shower Gel - I'm almost out of my Vanilla Chai gel, and really liked it. I have a pumpkin one, but I'll save it for the fall.

Lime Crime Plushies in Milk Tea - I know, I know. Lime Crime. I want to try their new lipstick formula, and I've seen several people get this shade and it looks good on them.

I'm really excited for my big spring haul! I haven't really "hauled" much at all this year, and most of these items are replacements anyway. I'm still actively destashing as well, so hopefully I won't feel overwhelmed with new items when they arrive.

I am a super huge fan of Fenty Beauty's Gloss Bomb, so when Rihanna decided to drop a line of matte lipsticks, I was intrigued. I'm a little over matte lipstick, but this wasn't a liquid matte, so I was willing to give it a chance. I was really good though, I didn't immediately purchase one and waited a few months. Other reviews looked good, so I went for it!

Spanked is describe as a "dusty rose" shade. It's a warm leaning rose pink. (My favorite!) The product description claims that the Mattemoiselle formula is a"long-wearing, petal-soft matte finish." The slim tube allows for a more precise application than a thicker shape would, especially along the lip line. It applied smoothly with no tugging. The formula applies evenly, and is pigmented enough that one pass achieves the color in the tube. It did highlight a few flakes on my lips, but it wasn't overly obvious. After applying, the lipstick was comfortable, with no slip to it. The finish was not super matte, but fell somewhere between matte and satin.

During wear, I did not notice the lipstick to be overly drying. It did transfer to my cup and onto food, but that's to be expected from a cream lipstick. It wore evenly throughout the day, and was easy to reapply. I didn't notice any bleeding or feathering while wearing. Overall, I really enjoyed Fenty's matte formula. I have heard that the formula varies wildly between shades, but Spanked seems to be one of the better performers.

I really like the packaging - I think it's sleek and slightly luxe looking. It's all light plastic, but I don't mind if a product doesn't feel expensive. A drawback to this lipstick is that you get a lot less for the price than other brands. Fenty's lipstick is $18 for 0.06 oz, as compared to Kat von D's Studded Kiss lipstick which is $19 for 0.12 oz. However, I do feel that Fenty's formula is worth the price.(Especially if you're not like me and own way too many lipsticks to begin with.) It helps that you can get true to tube color with one swipe, meaning a little bit of product will go a long way.

Pros:

Applies smoothly

Isn't overly drying

Wears evenly

Pigmented, full color with one swipe

No bleeding or feathering

Cons:

Needs to be reapplied

Transfers

Can highlight flakes

Not much product for the price

Review - 4.5/5Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-33586483842362601862018-04-08T22:51:00.002-04:002018-04-08T22:51:29.077-04:00March Empties & Reverse Rouge Check InI used up so much stuff in March! I had set a goal of twenty empties for myself, and was able to meet that with no problem. I've even been sheet masking more, which is great for my skin AND my mask stash! A few more months and I'll be able to buy some new masks without adding to an already large backlog.

I did requailify for Platinum status at Ulta during the month of March, but not due to my purchases! I got my hair colored last month, and my husband gets his hair cut at Ulta every two weeks, which adds up quickly. I don't see myself hitting the new Diamond level ($1200 spent!) this year, though.

I'm only going to highlight a few of the products I used up in March, just because there are a ton, and I'm pretty sure they're not all wroth writing about.

Banila Co. Miss Flower & Mr. Honey essence oil - I had this laying in my stash for ages, so of course when I finally start using it and enjoy it, I find out it's discontinued. This was a very light yet hydrating oil, perfect for mixing into a light moisturizer such as the Clinique gel. It also smelled like honey!

Dear by Enprani Moistfull Booskin toner - I read a lot of good reviews about this, but I wasn't sold on it. The toner was easy to layer and absorbed nicely, but I hated the overly floral smell. I finished the mini, but I won't be buying a full size.

Glow Recipe Green Tea Serum Toner - I LOVED this! This toner is lightweight and absorbs easily, making it great for layering. It had a fresh scent and didn't end up being overly sticky. I bought this one at Target, and will most likely get a second one from there, too. I used this a lot in the mornings, as green tea really helps soothe any redness I may have.

L'Oreal Lash Paradise mascara - People RAVED about this mascara, so I bought it. Apparently it's a dupe for Too Faced's Better Than Sex mascara, which I didn't like when I tried it. I didn't like this one either, but $9.99 isn't as bad as the Too Faced price tag. I found that this formula flaked on me, and I didn't like the size of the brush.

Lancôme Monsieur Big mascara mini - Another new mascara that everyone but me seemed to enjoy! This one clumped a ton on me, and I found it hard to get good separation of my lashes. I'm not mad, I honestly hate when I fall in love with expensive mascaras as they need to be replaced so often.

Gold Bond hand cream - I already wrote about it earlier this month for my March Favorites, but I'm going to reiterate that I LOVE this hand cream! It's cheap, hydrating, and sinks in quickly. What's not to love?

Sulwhasoo Snowise Brightening sheet mask - I had been given a couple of these and tossed them into my mask stash. Finally decided to use one, and I absolutely loved it. I'm so mad. These are $13 each. There is no need for me to use sheet masks that expensive. But the fit of the mask was good, the fabric was thin and clingy, and my skin was so bright afterward. Maybe I'll sell a chunk of my soul for a box of these. We'll see.
I'll be completing the challenge on empties alone (not counting purchases against me) by the halfway mark should things keep up! I'll double the challenge total combining empties and destashed products even with my purchases being discounted by the end of the year. I'm really happy with my progress - usually by the end of April I've already requalified for both Platinum and VIB Rouge, and I'm not yet close to even being VIB. Here's hoping April brings even more empties!

Being on a low buy has really had me looking at my collection lately, and becoming more familiar with the products I already have. I chose some staple products for this month's favorites, partially because I don't have a lot of "new new" to pick from, and partially because I feel favorites should be repeat, staple products. I have a couple kinda new products in this month's picks though, so that's a little exciting! (I won't deny that I love the rush of getting a package full of new goodies in the mail.)

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Spanked - The name is certainly a mouthful, but I really like this lipstick! I bought this back in February as a birthday gift to myself, and didn't get around to using it until this month. The formula is comfortable and not ultra matte, which I'm starting to grow tired of. The shade is a typical rosy pink, which i always seem to gravitate to. I am hoping to maybe get another shade from this line, especially if I can destash some unloved products.

Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Hand Cream - I am CONSTANTLY washing my hands at work (staying hydrated = lots of bathroom runs = a lot of hand washing!) so I keep a tube of hand cream on my desk. I prefer something cheaper on my desk, and I've been super picky lately. Some hand creams have had a residue left behind, some are just too expensive (I keep a jumbo L'Occitane in my bag, but I go through it too quick for it to be my desk hand cream), and some just don't smell nice. I bought this at Target, and honestly it's perfect for everyday use. It's hydrating enough that a little goes a long way, it sinks in quickly, and has a neutral scent. It's also like four bucks, which makes it my new HG budget hand cream!

MAC eyeshadow in Shroom - As you can see, this is a well loved eyeshadow. It's actually from somewhere in my early college years, making it like ten years old. I use it as a subtle inner corner or brow bone highlight. It's taken literal years to use this much, and I'm determined to finish it! I've been lazy with eyeshadow lately, and just popping this in the inner corner for an extra bit of polish to my basic looks.

Viseart Neutral Mattes palette - As I mentioned, I've been lazy lately when it comes to eyeshadow. Thankfully, this palette has made my life a lot easier. Using this, I can throw together a super quick matte eyeshadow look that is beautifully blended. It requires next to no effort to put something cohesive together. Even if I am feeling lazy, I'm still able to get a nice look going with this, especially paired with Shroom!

Cosrx Low pH PHA Barrier Mist - Another slightly new thing! I received this from Cupidrop as a bonus in addition to a sleeping mask sent for review. I fell in love with the packaging at first sight, the soft gradient of the bottle is beautiful. Thankfully, I also like the actual product itself! The mister creates a super fine mist, which I prefer. The mister button is a little hard to press down, but I don't mind. I've been using it before actives after cleansing, which I think has been helping my skin. I haven't used this over makeup, as I don't really carry mists with me. I'd consider purchasing once this is finished, I've really been enjoying it.

April has the Sephora sale along with the potential for a good Ulta coupon, so I'm hoping to have some "new new" things to show off next month. But if not, I'll be back with more of my reliable favorites next month.Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-62181147213539245792018-03-29T07:00:00.000-04:002018-03-27T21:52:03.796-04:00Spring 2018 Product Picks

Spring hasn't quite sprung here yet - we've had four big snowstorms in the last three weeks. However, it'll be here soon, and that means springy colors and finishes! I wear colors year round, but I do have my favorite spring shades and looks that I like to dust off a bit this time of year. I don't think I'm going to be setting any new seasonal trends, but if you're interested in seeing what I'm into for spring, keep reading!

When it comes to favorite spring colors, I don't branch out too much from my usual palette. All the items I'm about to list feature year round on my face, but for those who try to work with the seasons, here's what I dig for spring.

A Hint of Mint

I love, love, LOVE minty colored products, especially in spring! I'll do a bright mint inner corner to accent something more neutral, or go all out with a heavy mint wing. Green is my favorite color, so I tend to favor greener mints over bluer ones, though most mint shades I've tracked down lean more blue. I do, however, always have a a springy, minty green nail polish on hand. Some minty fresh favorites:

Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Shadow Liner in Mint

Dose of Colors Eyedeal Duo in Mint to Be

By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Fizzy Jade

Zoya nail polish in Tracie

Peach Perfection

I am sure everyone is over the peach hype train by now...but I'm not. Peach pairs so well with mint, and now that peach has had a big blowup, there are more peachy shades out there than ever. I don't just mean nice, nude peaches - I mean strongly leaning pink and orange peaches. I like doing a peach "monochromatic" face - maybe not all the same shade of peach, but all in the peach family. A few of my favorites:

Too Faced Sweet Peach palette

Too Faced Sweet Peach Creamy Peach Oil Lip Gloss in Papa Don't Peach

Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet in 503 Glow

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick in Pisces

Becca Mineral Blush in Wild Honey

PINK!!!

I know, I know. Pink, like florals, for spring? Groundbreaking. But I do love pink makeup, and spring is a a great time to break out all my pink shades. (Summer is for hot pink, though!) Be it pink lips, pink cheeks, or pink lids, I am 110% about it. I wanted to also do a section on rose gold, but I'm just going to lump that in here. Some pleasantly pink picks:

ILNP nail polish in Champagne Blush

Clinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick in Verbena

I tried to save some of my product selections to sort into the finishes I like for spring. They mostly fit into a color slot as well, but to keep from being redundant, they're here:

Shimmer and Sparkle

I wear glitter year round, but the start of warmer weather is the perfect time to break out glitter. I tend to keep my highlight a little more on the glowy side than the shimmery side, but now is the time to amplify that! A natural finish foundation topped with a more shimmery highlight isn't too over the top. Here are my go to glitters:

Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Kitten

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Vanilla Quartz

Glosses and Stains

After an endless reign of matte lipsticks, it seems like glossy lips are slowly coming back around. I'm all for it, I love a good gloss. The lip stain trend has also gained a lot of traction as well - what better time than spring to break out the popsicle lips? Here's what I'm ready to wear:

Lancôme Juicy Shaker in Vanilla Pop

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in Fenty Glow

Dior Addict Lip Tattoo in Natural Cherry

I am so, so excited to see what other trends come up for spring! I'll continue to do a peach eye with minty inner corner paired with peach blush and a glossy lip, but I am ready to see what else is new.

I love when I get stuff in the mail, especially unexpected goodies! I got the new Marc Jacobs Shameless foundation in the mail right before I left for Las Vegas, so it became my travel foundation for that trip. (I was originally going to bring the Fenty foundation but was meh on the matte finish for my going out looks.) It was risky, bringing a brand new, untested product with me, but life is about adventure, right? Before we get started, I received this product for free from Influenster (my referral link, fyi) in exchange for an honest review.

The Marc Jacobs Shameless foundation has the following claims in the description - "24-hour wear," "provides buildable, medium coverage that blends seamlessly," and "the perfect level of coverage allows for flexibility." The foundation comes in a sleek squeezy tube, which some have complained feels cheap. I like it, I like easy to dispense products. I'd rather a cheaper feeling squeeze tube than an intricate glass bottle with no pump. (Looking at you, way too many luxury brands.) The entire black bottom pops off for the squeeze portion of the bottle. The foundation needs to be shaken, or you'll get some liquid with some clumps in it. Once shaken, it's a fairly liquidy foundation that doesn't appear too heavy.

I usually use a beauty blender to apply foundation over a mattifying primer (NARS Pore & Shine Control.) For the life of me, I could not get this foundation to sit right on top of my primer. If my primer was not immaculately applied, evenly spread out to the thinnest possible layer, this foundation clumped up on it. I tried mixing it with moisturizer (belif Aqua Bomb) to see if it would thin out and be more forgiving, and no dice. As I had only brought one primer with me, I tried it with a more hydrating primer (Becca First Light Priming Filter) at home, just to give it one last shot - same problem. The foundation just did not sit right on my skin, making for an uneven looking surface for the rest of my makeup. Due to this, I feel like it did not live up to the claim of "blending seamlessly." The coverage, however, was solidly medium - covered redness but my freckles were still somewhat visible. Unfortunately, the product also highlighted my large pores on my cheeks.

Concerning wear time, I wore this to work once over a hydrating primer, and it did not hold up well. Halfway through my day (4-5 hours in) I noticed the foundation visibly breaking down on my chin. I am oily, and I do normally wear a mattifying primer, but something claiming 24 hour wear shouldn't be looking crappy at hour 5. I didn't wear the foundation long enough with a matte primer to see how that lasted. (Not to mention it wore worse over a matte primer in terms of application.)

I received the shade Y130, "light with yellow undertones." I'm fairly pale, with more yellow than red in my complexion. The foundation claims that due to the coverage level, this foundation can be flexible - I still found it far too yellow on me. However, it wasn't too dark, and I think the next Y shade up would be too dark on me. Even when slightly sheered out with moisturizer, it didn't exactly fit.

I really tried with this one. I really didn't want to "wrong shade, one star" it, even though it wasn't really my shade. It just didn't work out for me at all. I'm glad I got the chance to try it, and I passed it along to a friend so she could give it a shot as well. I picked up a foundation sample from Sephora halfway through my trip to make sure I had something better to work with. On to the next one, I guess!

Pros:

Easy to use packaging

Medium coverage

Cons:

Applies poorly over primer, both hydrating and mattifying

Emphasized pores

Breaks down much sooner than 24 hours

Foundation starts to break down halfway through an 8 hour work shift, let alone 24 hours!

Doesn't really seem that "flexible" in shade range

Marc Jacobs Beauty Shameless Youthful-Look 24H Foundation SPF 25 in Y130 - $46 for 1.08 oz

Review - 1.5/5 (I liked the packaging...)

I really do try to pare down what I bring, but it isn't easy. I'm flying with only a carryon, so I'm limited to just a quart sized bag for my liquid products. Here's a quick look at what I've decided to bring!

I'll start with all of the makeup I'm bringing. I'm wearing a lot of either black or white, so I decided I'll bring a lot of bold pink lipsticks, which happen to be my favorite! I have liquid (Chanel Rouge Allure Ink), cream (Urban Decay Vice), and tint (Dior Addict Lip Tattoo) as formula options. I'm also bringing along my trusty Fenty Gloss Bomb and Bite Beauty lip pencil for a less bright lip option.

I'm keeping the rest of my options fairly basic. A neutral blush and a bright blush, a buildable highlighter, setting powder (how CUTE is that Laura Mercier mini?), and a finishing powder. For eye makeup, I have a palette with brights (Too Faced Peachy Mattes) and a neutral palette (Viseart Neutral Mattes.) I also have a glitter (Urban Decay Distortion) and a minty green (By Terry Fizzy Jade) for fun eye options. My trusty Kat von D Tattoo liner is coming with me, and I'm bringing a mini of the new Lancôme Monsieur Big mascara.

<strike>I'm debating taking the Fenty foundation, mostly because it's the best shade fit, but it's got more of a matte finish than I'd like.</strike> I actually received the new Marc Jacobs foundation right beforeI left(after taking these photos, of course...) so I wound up taking that with me to try out. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is the only concealer I own, so that comes with me as well. The only mini setting spray I have that I really like is the Kat von D spray, which is no Fix+, but it'll get the job done.

Skincare is more difficult, since most products are cream or liquid. I managed to get around bringing a liquid cleanser thanks to the Tosowoong Powder Wash. It foams up decently! I'll be trying out the Son & Park Beauty Water, finally! I'll be using that in addition to my cleanser as I don't have an oil or balm cleanser to take with me. I have some belif minis for my moisturizer and eye cream. I'm also taking the last of my bottle of A'pieu sunscreen.

I always bring an assortment of sheet masks with me. Since they're individually sealed, they don't count towards my bag of liquids. The Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta pads are individually sealed as well, which gets me some decent exfoliants as well as saving precious bag space. I need to double check my stash for essence and serum samples, because otherwise those masks are going to be filling that step in for me as well. (More foil packets don't hurt, either!)

In terms of haircare, I have a bumble and bumble mini set of shampoo and conditioner in my gym bag that I'll be bringing (thanks, Sephora birthday gift!) Normally I would use whatever the hotel provides and deal with it, but since I just colored my hair and the bumble and bumble set is sulfate free, I'm taking those. I also have the last of an Alterna volumizing spray, and I'll pair it with the Ouai Wave spray I have in my gym bag. I also have this cute Amika dry shampoo I'll be taking as well.

I try not to overload on tools. I bring the least amount of makeup brushes I can get away with. I don't need a big powder brush because I can just apply powder with my beautyblender. I use the thick Hourglass brush to apply finishing powder, and I can also use that for any serious buffing I may need to do as well. I'm also taking the Amika Polished Perfection brush with me to keep my bangs in check. As much as I'd love to take my Dyson dryer, it'll take up half my bag! I'll also be taking a handful of Shiseido cottons and Q-tips with me, along with hair ties and bobby pins.

I really do recommend hoarding any minis if you know you'll be traveling in the near future. A mini moisturizer isn't going to last for a week+ trip, but for a long weekend, it's perfect! All of the things I'm bringing manage to fit into the quart bag for my liquids and a jumbo pink Glossier zip top, so I'd say I did a good job scaling back my routines for my trip.

February is over, meaning I get to purge last month's trash! I used up a bunch of products this month, I'm pretty proud of myself. I still have a huge backlog, but every little bit helps! There's a good mix of makeup, skincare, and haircare this month. I've also got my totals towards the Reverse Rouge Challenge further on in this post!

Lots of trash!

I managed to do eight sheet masks! Not a ton, but I'm definitely making sheet masks apart of my regular routine more often. There's a marked improvement with those, though I won't be at the point where I can buy more masks anytime soon.

I finished quite a few mascaras that I had let linger for a while. Here are some highlights:

YSL The Shock mascara - I really didn't like this. It was heavily scented, which I really don't understand for a mascara. The formula was also really heavy. Just a total nope for me.

Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara - I really, really loved this! The tube is cute, but the mascara really delivered The formula wasn't overly wet, which I happen to like. The brush was dense but not huge, allowing me to get all of the lashes on my small eyes. The best part..it's less than five bucks! I can definitely see myself repurchasing this one, I can see why so many people like it.

IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara - I liked this at first, until I saw it was flaking a bit. Drier formula, non obnoxious brush, and it didn't flake too badly, so overall it wasn't bad.

In terms of skincare, I finished a couple staple items. Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect cleansing oil was really nice, but I decided to purchase another new cleansing oil to try. The Skinfood one was thin and easy to spread and did a good job at removing about 85% of my makeup (heavy liner needed a bit more help.) The new one I'm trying is cheaper, but the Skinfood one isn't super expensive.

I also finished another Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm mini, this is like my second or third. Decent eye cream, love getting minis of it! They last ages. I also finished up another package of Simple makeup wipes, these are staples in my gym bag.

The three makeup items I finished are definite favorites! MAC Fix+ is some magic water, I tell you. (I count it as a makeup item since i don't use it without makeup on my face.) I wish I could pool all my empty bottles for Back2Mac. I had a backup of this waiting. There's a matte version coming out, and I can't wait to try it. Finally finished my bottle of MUFE Ultra HD Foundation and I'm debating repurchasing even though I really love it, mostly because I have a ton of other base products I need to get through. (Also because it is $43.) I finished up a mini Bite Beauty 022 lip pencil and I purchased a full size of it. It's the perfect go-to pinky nude shade, and I always top it with a gloss. It applies smoothly with no tugging, and provides great coverage for just being a lip liner. I'm happy I was able to finish it, and I'm happier to have found another HG product!

Just one haircare product, but I've had it for a while! SheaMoisture's Weightless Texture Spray lived up to its name. It didn't weigh down my hair and gave me some light texture. It also had a light, fruity scent that was pleasant. I think I prefer a product that gives a little more texture, though I had no issues finishing this up.
I did do a little bit of purchasing this month, with the excuse that it was my birthday month. Thankfully, I didn't go overboard (like I did last year...)

Sugarpill x Little Twin Stars palette - $38

Lush Sleepy lotion - $14 (I bought this used, which is why it's cheap!)

Total Empties + Destashed = $559.15

Minus Purchases = $365.13

And for the year so far:

Total Empties = $483.60

Total Empties + Destashed = $1,128.26

Minus Purchases = $840.78

If we don't count purchases, and include destashes, I've already completed my Reverse Rouge Challenge! That's so crazy...just makes me realize exactly how much stuff I own. Counting purchases, I should surpass Reverse Rouge by the end of March. If we just go by empties alone, I'm almost halfway done with the challenge. I'm excited to see the totals at the end of the year!

I actually had a hard time picking my favorite products for February. I haven't really bought a ton of new stuff, so I was picking from items I use all the time. I didn't want to feature the same things again (yes, I love MJ Air Blush in Flesh & Fantasy, but we know that!) so it was a little more difficult picking things this time around. There's a couple new things I haven't featured, and one of my all time favorites in the mix.

Nivea Oil Infused Lotion, Zoya Kimber, Alterna Volume Spray, Fenty Pro Filt'r Foundation, IGK Down & Dirty Spray

Let's get started with something from the drugstore (or rather, Target) - Nivea Oil Infused lotion in Vanilla & Almond Oil. It's been suuuper dry this winter, so I wanted a big pump bottle of lotion. I'm particular about my lotion, I hate formulas that are thick and sit on the skin. This lotion is light and sinks in quickly, but since it also has oil as well as regular moisturizer, it's more heavy duty than your typical lightweight body lotion. The scent is light and isn't overly strong. The pump distributes plenty, and it's large and sturdy. I am really happy with this impulse purchase, and I can see myself using it year round! (As I was writing this paragraph a commercial for this came on TV, what a coincidence!!)

I am not a huge hair person, but I know what I like to try and get out of my hair. I have fine, straight, flat hair so the #1 thing I want is volume. I got a mini of Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist (what a mouthful) and have really enjoyed it. Since my hair is so fine, I need something that won't weigh my hair down, and I haven't had a problem with loading my roots up with this spray. I usually spray damp roots, flip my hair over, and blow dry. I haven't decided if I want to pick up a full size of this, or give another product a try. The second thing I want is texture, and I have been loving IGK Down & Out Dirty Spray. I use this on dry hair when I want to put it up, usually day 2 after a wash and having worn my hair down the day before. It adds a lot of texture without being sticky or wearing my hair down. It also smells nice!

After my fiasco with trying out Glossier Solution, my skin wasn't in a great state. However, I had the means to cover that up with Fenty Pro Filt'r Foundation! I prefer a lighter medium coverage foundation that my freckles can still show through, but this has been a lifesaver. It dries very matte, which is good for my oily skin. I have the shade 140, which I feel is a pretty decent match. I have seen this sink into some of my pores and into the stupid frown wrinkle on my forehead, but my skin does look great overall. Even though my skin is much better now, I still keep reaching for this. I sort of want to save it for when it gets gross and humid in the summer, though.

Last but not least, my very favorite nail polish shade - Zoya Kimber! I've used up half of this bottle of polish, which is unheard of for a color polish for me. It's a bright, slightly iridescent pink. I wear it year round - just like I wear bright pink lipstick. I need about three coats for my nails, but it lasts a decent amount of time without chipping (especially paired with a good base and top coat.) I get a bit of tip wear, but I type all day every day, so I can't hold that against the polish. Zoya polishes are also 10 free, meaning they don't have a bunch of toxic ingredients, on top of being cruelty free!

That's it for February! I know there's less new product excitement when you're low buying, but I'm happy I was able to get excited about a few things I was already using. I have some new items while going into March, so we'll see what the next month brings!Juleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12683847942611389351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693056322980426660.post-4034410289753182282018-02-26T23:49:00.002-05:002018-02-26T23:49:48.527-05:00Recent Purchases, Repurchases, and Acquisitions

I think it's a good sign for my low buy that I don't have enough stuff for a purchase post AND a repurchase post. It's my birthday month and I was pretty restrained, as you can see. (Unlike last year...) Two of these products were sent to me for review, so I didn't even buy everything here! I'm super excited about everything, though.

Let's talk about new goodies! I mentioned it was my birthday month, so I had to treat myself a little bit. I destashed a ton more this month, so I have a little room in my collection for new things - and I'm basically recycling money that was already spent, right?

ILNP nail polishes in Champagne Blush, Rolling Hills, & Juliette - I had been lusting after some new ILNP shades after my friend Jessica got a few new ones a while back. I decided to stick with springy shades for the upcoming months, although I wear rose gold and mint year round!

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle lipstick in Spanked - The last thing I need is another warm rosewood lipstick, but it's my birthday, so I bought one anyway. I have heard mixed reviews about this formula, mainly that the formula varies with each shade. But I did hear good things about Spanked, so I'm giving it a shot!

Bite Beauty Astrology Collection - Pisces - I will tell you now, I think astrology is 100% bullshit. That being said, I will buy a lipstick that comes out around my birthday in a shade that will probably look good on me. I love Bite's Amuse Bouche formula, so it was an easy purchase! Also, peach will be a good shade for the next six months at least.

Kat von D Studded Kiss lipstick in Double Dare - I got the original Double Dare release in the silver Studded Kiss packaging for Christmas 2016, but I like the newer formula better! Im destashing my LE silver tube, and replacing it with this mini. I love minis, because it's a much more reasonable amount of lipstick to have laying around. This was a promo code product, so I didn't even buy it!

Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil - This is a new product to me, but it's a repurchase of a cleansing oil. I have heard good reviews of this oil, and the fact that you can get cheap refills is really appealing. I also love pump bottles for my skincare products, so this is doubly good for me.

I only had two repurchases, but I really dig both products:

Lush Sleepy body lotion - I'm not completely done with my first small Sleepy lotion, but I'm already in love with it! I bought this full size off a friend who wasn't using it, so lucky me!

belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb - I finished up my mini size that belif had sent me last month, and I really felt that it filled a spot in my routine. This is my perfect daytime eye cream, so I bit the bullet and repurchased the full size. Thankfully, the full size should last me a while because $48 is a little hard to swallow!

I received two products for review from Cupidrop (hence "acquisitions"!) as well:

Cosrx Low pH BHA Overnight Mask - I love Cosrx products, so I'm excited to test out their new overnight mask! So far, so good, but it's only been one day. I plan to use it another few days before providing any first impressions.

Cosrx Low pH PHA Barrier Mist - This was provided by Cupidrop as a bonus gift, and I was super pleased! The bottle is so, so gorgeous. I've been trying to incorporate mists more, so this is perfect!

I'm really happy with my purchases this month. I think I hit a nice balance of repurchases, impulse buys, and thought out purchases. My low buy is still going well, so hopefully I'll have another purchase post in like...April? We'll see!
