Marc Jacobs: Blacquer and More 500 Point Perk

After the mad rush of the Extraordinary Rewards last week, a lot of people were left with a bad taste in their mouth concerning Sephora. But lo and behold, they went ahead and dropped a fancy new Marc Jacobs 500 point perk that I (and many others!) promptly snapped up. (I was also given 500 points for bitching and moaning via email...yay whining! I sort of hate myself.) The Marc Jacobs: Blacquer and More perk has four deluxe minis inside, including a mini lipstick in that new formula that I love! I've dissected my box and swatched the products below, and included some initial thoughts on what I've tried so far.

Here's the box with the photo sleeve removed - check out those Sephora stripes.

The perk set includes the following four items:

  • Magic Marc'er Precision Pen Waterproof Eyeliner (0.01 oz.)
  • Le Marc Lip Crème in Magenta 224 (0.030 oz.)
  • Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer 42 (0.01 oz.)
  • O!Mega Lash Volumizing Mascara in Blacquer 30 (0.10 oz.)
The full value of this set is $55.15.

Here's what the opened products look like. I didn't open the mascara because I wasn't sure if I wanted to use it yet, and you know how that goes - didn't want to needlessly open a mascara. I wound up opening it anyway. The lipstick packaging is just a click shut, not a super mini luxe magnetic closure like the full size, but it's still adorable! The Precision Pen has something inside that moves when you shake it, so it's cool that it's a fully functioning mini. The Highliner is twist up.

I've swatched the two liners and the lipstick on bare skin. Magenta is a shade described as "grape sangria" (which is weird, why wouldn't you describe it as magenta) and it' is a deep purple pink shade. The Precision Pen liquid liner is a felt tip liner, which isn't my favorite, I prefer a brush tip. The tip on this is sharp but firm, and can create a sharp edge, as shown in the swatch. It isn't the darkest, blackest liner out there, but it gets the job done. I was able to do a pretty decent wing with a nice, clean edge. The Highliner crayon is great for someone who wants a gel liner consistency but doesn't want to fiddle with a brush. It went on smooth, and though it isn't the blackest black out there, it's a solid black liner.

I also opened up and tried the O!Mega Lash mascara. It's a volumizing mascara, and I usually prefer lengthening due to my stubby baby lashes. I was able to get to the bottom of my lashes with the brush, and it definitely plumped them up, but did not give much length at all. I didn't get spider lashes, and I was easily able to comb the lashes after application. The formula wasn't too great on my bottom lashes, but I suspect that's because the brush is much too fat for a good bottom lash application. I don't think I'd be purchasing a full size of this, mostly due to it being for volume, not length.

I'm happy with this point perk, especially after the disaster that was the extraordinary rewards. I think that my points were well spent, and I got a lot of high performing products in the set. Even though the mascara isn't my ideal mascara, the packaging is very nice and it gets the job done for a volumizing mascara - it'll probably be tossed into my purse for touch ups, or brought on a trip or something. I'm really looking forward to working with the Precision Pen more, and I can't say no to another Lip Crème!

  1. I seem to miss out on all the nice Sephora sets! Booo. I like the shade of the lipstick, though, and you're tempting me with the Lip Cremes!
