November 2017 Favorites!

As the year comes to an end, I find myself in a serious makeup rut. I've been doing the same look over and over - winged liner, rosewood lip, and a mostly nude blush. It's my go-to look, and it works for me, but not being inspired sucks. November's favorites are a few of the staples that I've been using while I try and work myself back into doing more varied makeup. These are all great products, and a couple are even new! (To me, at least, they've been out for a little bit.)

I usually opt for a mattifying primer, but as the air gets a little more dry, I've been reaching for Too Faced Hangover RX primer. I may get a little more shiny, but this helps my other combination of mattifying products from making my skin feel tight or dry throughout the day. I also loooove the scent of it. I'm almost out of this, and I'm debating repurchasing or trying another hydrating primer. If you have any recommendations, let me know!

To compliment my winged liner, I add a decent amount of Kat Von D Metal Crush eyeshadow in Thunderstruck to the inner corners of my eyes. It adds just the right amount of iridescence. I've actually managed to hit pan on this, mostly because I use the same little dome brush in the same spot in the pan. Thunderstruck is also great to layer on top of other shades - I really like layering it on top of a mint cream shadow.

I opened a new mascara mini last month, IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara. I'm picky about mascara, I prefer a formula that lengthens and separates with a little volume over a super volumizing formula. My lashes are short and thin, so they need the extra length! (Especially when you put super thick black liner on, half the time you can't see them because they don't extend far enough. Wear a smaller wing so I can see my lashes? Uh, no.) I actually like this mascara! I get good separation, decent length, and can apply two coats without it getting clumpy. It's a drier formula, which I happen to prefer. The brush isn't overly huge, which works for my small eyes. It doesn't seem to flake on me, either. However, I get the best results after scraping the brush on the sides of the tube, and then rolling the brush on a tissue. It wastes product, but it gets the best result for me. I have a ton of minis and other mascaras waiting in the wings so a repurchase may not be in my future, but I'm happy to have opened such a good product!

Clinique Cheek Pop in Nude Pop is new to me, thanks to the Sephora VIB Rouge sale! I had been wanting a light slightly peachy nude blush for the longest time, but Surratt Duchesse is ALWAYS sold out, so I looked for dupes. Nude Pop gives me what I was going for - buildable color that doesn't clash with any other shades I may have on my face. I don't consider myself the best at color coordinating my looks, and I always get hung up on blush. I've worn this with pinks and nudes so far, and it looks great. I already knew the Cheek Pop formula was one I liked, so I'm glad the shade was what I was hoping for.

Last but definitely not least, as I've worn it at least once a week for the past month or so, is Bite Beauty 022 Lip Pencil. I got this from a Sephora promo code, and I've used up half of the deluxe sample size so far. (I hate that it needs to be sharpened, as you lose product, but what can you do?) This is a wonderful MLBB (my lips but better!) shade for me, and I find the lip pencil formula very comfortable. I always top this with a gloss, usually the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb or Charlotte Tilbury High Society. Shade 022 also matches about half of my lipsticks (since I keep buying the same shade in every formula...) I will most likely finish this before the year is out, and I will definitely be purchasing a full size.

I think a makeup rut really helps you discover your favorite products - they're the things you reach for over and over because you know they work and you like how they look. I have many more products that go into my everyday look, but these are some real workhorses for me. Hopefully next month I'll be out of this funk and have some new goodies to show off!
