Nails of the Day - 3.8.16

Okay, I'll admit it - not the most perfect mani. But I'm really happy about how springy this looks! The glitter is loose glitter patted onto a layer of damp polish. A thick layer of top coat on top of the glitter seals it in! (Just be careful, it may stay smudgy longer, even with a quick dry top coat.)

Here's what I used:

  • OPI Nail Envy (trying to strengthen!)
  • Formula X Harmonics
  • Lit Cosmetics glitter in Angel Eyes
  • Seche Vite
I've been having super good luck with my nails for the most part - only one or two breaking on the edges. With the Nail Envy, I'm hoping to grow them out again.

Nails of the Day - 6.15.15

Happy Mani Monday! About time I upload my nails on a Monday! I actually too this picture right before I took this polish off. I've really been into gradients lately, and my favorite addition to gradients is a glitter topping. I really wish I had a solid glitter for this, but I made due with the shimmer finish of Hunny Bunny.

Products Used:
  • OPI Nail Envy
  • OPI Bubble Bath
  • China Glaze Rose Among Thorns
  • Lit Cosmetics glitter in Hunny Bunny
  • Seche Vite

Nails of the Day - 5.30.15

Starting the week off with a fresh mani. Less summery, more icy this time. I love adding glitter on top of nail polish instead of using glitter polish, since it comes off much easier when it's time to remove everything! I put on a thin layer of top coat, let it dry for about 30 seconds, and then dab on loose glitter using a makeup wedge. I seal everything up with a nice layer of top coat.

Lit Cosmetics Naturally Lit Trio

Last month when I went to IMATS NY, my first stop was the Lit Cosmetics booth. By now, if you've been reading my blog, you should know that I love to sparkle and that Lit is my favorite glitter brand. I picked up a ton of glitter at the show, including the show exclusive Naturally Lit trio - a set of three "nude" glitters that will compliment a range of skintones. All three of the glitters are size 2, meaning you can easily incorporate them into an everyday look for a hint of sparkle. The three glitters are all solid glitters, which means that they will reflect their solid color only - no holo or rainbows here. This helps keep with the idea of the "nude" glitter.

Unfortunately, the trio isn't available online for order yet. But I'm going to provide some swatches now so that when Lit does have these up for sale, you can decide which is the right one for you! (Which is all of them.)

Lit Cosmetics glitter - Size 2 vs. Size 3

I love glitter. I love using it on my nails, on my eyes...I really dig it. Lit Cosmetics is probably my favorite glitter brand. When I first bought their glitter, I had no idea what I was doing. I was going for a specific type of look, and I got my glitter, and I was super pumped. But...it looked all wrong. The glitter just looked bad. I later found out that Lit sells different sizes of glitter. I had picked size 2, which is a pretty fine cut. Now that I know better, I prefer size 3. All of my glitter in my Lit collection is size 2 or 3, and I think it would be handy to show the difference. I happen to have two sizes of the same shade, Cher. (Cher was my first glitter, that I got in the wrong size, by the way. Now I have what I need!)

According to Lit Cosmetics, size 2 is a "small cut," and size 3 is a "medium cut." The above picture has the two sizes side by side, and you can sort of tell the difference in size from what's in the sifter. it offers four sizes in total, with size 1 being a "micro cut," (I can't imagine how teeny that is!) and size 4 being a "large cut." I also took a shot using the macro setting to hopefully capture some more detail on the glitter size.

With the macro shot, size 2 looks like some silvery, sparkly sand. Meanwhile, size 3 looks like actual piece of glitter! Size 2 is much much smaller (it's actually half the size of size 3!) What will really help show the difference between the sizes is a set of swatches.

Now you can definitely see the difference between the two! Size 2 looks like a very fine sparkle, while size 3 looks like some serious glitter. I find that size 2 is a little more tricky to work with sometimes, because the fine cut sometimes clumps up if you use too much adhesive, or if you don't work fast enough at spreading what you have on your brush. I prefer size 3 because the pieces of glitter are larger, and I feel it looks better for things such as glitter liner. Size 2 glitter looks great for more subtle looks, as the sparkle will gently catch the light, instead of shouting HEY LOOK AT THIS GLITTER! like size 3 would.

It's important to notice what size the glitter you're buying is, especially if you have a certain look in mind! I'm happy that I know the difference now, and will usually pick something in size 3 if available (or something along those lines if I'm not buying from Lit.)

Lit Cosmetics Glitter Haul and Swatches

Anyone who talks to me about makeup knows that I love glitter. I add it to my eye makeup, I add it to my nails, I use it as liner - I'm all about adding a touch of sparkle. My favorite glitter is Lit Cosmetics glitter, and I love placing orders with them because they're fast and their customer service is tops. I recently placed an order and here's what I picked up!

Glitter Injections Haul and Swatches

I've been on a total glitter kick lately. I decided to place an order with Glitter Injections for three shades to see what they had to offer. I had seen them being used a lot on Instagram, and I wanted to see what was up!

Glitter Injections top to bottom - Black Rainbow,
Mystic Butterfly, Vintage Chic

I ordered three shades - Black Rainbow, Vintage Chic, and Mystic Butterfly. I didn't receive shipping confirmation or tracking, but the glitter was in my hands in less than a week! Everything was nicely packaged in bubble wrap. I was intrigued by the "injections" packaging. On the site the claim is that the injection is a "lot less messy." Apparently I was mistaken in thinking the point of the glitter injection was to actually use the "injection" portion. After trying to unstick the tip of the syringe, I realized you're supposed to pull out the plunger. (At least I hope that's right...)

I'm a little disappointed in Black Rainbow, as there doesn't seem to be much rainbow sparkle like the photo on the site! However, I'm definitely going to try and use it as a liner and see how it looks. I'm really excited about Vintage Chic and Mystic Butterfly - I am really looking forward to using these on my nails and in eye looks! My only issue is that all of the glitters seem to be a very fine cut, with no option of a chunkier glitter on the site (unlike Lit, who offers different sizes.)

Overall, I'm pleased with my first purchase from Glitter Injections. Each "injection" is 5 grams of glitter, for $6.99. I can't wait to play with these!

  • Deborah Lippmann "You've Got A Friend"
  • Sephora by OPI "Wardrobe Change"
  • Lit Cosmetics glitter in Sugar & Spice
  • Seche Vite top coat

Nails of the Day - 1.20.15

I'm calling this nails of the day, since sometimes I paint my nails more than once a week! I wanted to showcase my nail art here as well, since I have quite a collection of nail polish in addition to makeup. I'm also learning to use the Macro setting on my camera, so what better thing to practice with!

Here is a list of what I used for this manicure:
  • Orly Bonder base coat
  • Cirque Colors Memento Mori
  • Lit Cosmetics glitter in Seeing Stars
  • Seche Vite top coat
For the glitter, I took a dry makeup sponge and dabbed dry glitter lightly onto slightly tacky polish, and then went over with a top coat. This loose glitter was MUCH less chunky and rough than a glitter nail polish! I am really pleased with how this turned out.

I can't wait to share more nail looks!

September 2014 Favorites

Happy October! I'm so glad that it's finally autumn and that the weather is cooling down. I hope you enjoy my shoddily crafted together favorites image for this month's favorites post!

1. Lit Cosmetics glitter in Champagne Wishes - I've got five Lit glitters hanging around my vanity, and I seemingly never reach for them. This month I've played with them a lot more to try and see how I can work them into an everyday look. Champagne Wishes is just that - a champagne gold, and it looks great mixed in with neutral looks.

2. NYX Cosmetics blush in Angel - This blush is one of my go to "Don't know what to wear" blushes because it is such a versatile color. The color is described as a "matte soft pink," but can come off as almost peachy on the skin (well, mine, at least.) It's the perfect blush to pair with a bolder eye or lip look, since it is so understated.

3. NYX Cosmetics Wicked Lashes in Bashful  - If you read my earlier reivew, it was pretty easy to tell that these would end up on a favorites list sooner or later. I've worn them pretty much every day this week, and have opened up my second pair. Definitely give these a try if false lashes are your sort of thing!

4. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Smoke - I've really been digging defined, yet not using black liner to do it eye looks, if that makes any sense. Reaching for a gray liner gives that definition, finishes a look, but doesn't scream EYELINER! I love the UD pencil liners, and Smoke gets the job done for that liner look. It's matte and not too dark, which is perfect!

5. Bioderma Sensibio H2O - I received this in a lovely package from a wonderful friend in the UK. This micellar water is fantastic. I love how it picks up any spot of makeup leftover on my face after cleansing, and makes my skin feel refreshed. I have this teeny baby bottle pictured here, but I can see bribing overseas friends with Pretzel Flipz for more bottles of this.
