According to Lit Cosmetics, size 2 is a "small cut," and size 3 is a "medium cut." The above picture has the two sizes side by side, and you can sort of tell the difference in size from what's in the sifter. it offers four sizes in total, with size 1 being a "micro cut," (I can't imagine how teeny that is!) and size 4 being a "large cut." I also took a shot using the macro setting to hopefully capture some more detail on the glitter size.
With the macro shot, size 2 looks like some silvery, sparkly sand. Meanwhile, size 3 looks like actual piece of glitter! Size 2 is much much smaller (it's actually half the size of size 3!) What will really help show the difference between the sizes is a set of swatches.
Now you can definitely see the difference between the two! Size 2 looks like a very fine sparkle, while size 3 looks like some serious glitter. I find that size 2 is a little more tricky to work with sometimes, because the fine cut sometimes clumps up if you use too much adhesive, or if you don't work fast enough at spreading what you have on your brush. I prefer size 3 because the pieces of glitter are larger, and I feel it looks better for things such as glitter liner. Size 2 glitter looks great for more subtle looks, as the sparkle will gently catch the light, instead of shouting HEY LOOK AT THIS GLITTER! like size 3 would.
It's important to notice what size the glitter you're buying is, especially if you have a certain look in mind! I'm happy that I know the difference now, and will usually pick something in size 3 if available (or something along those lines if I'm not buying from Lit.)
Thanks for the great post! I was pretty confused about Lit's sizing system and just happened to be recently wondering what the difference between 2 and 3 were-great timing :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a super-informative post - I had no idea there were so many types of glitter! Also, Cher is a gorgeous shade, I bet it makes a great glitter liner!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this! I wish they would have a size chart on their website!
