Review - Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Carina

When my local Macy's got the Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks in, I immediately rushed over to get my hands on some, since I am a sucker for both liquid lipstick and for hype.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Carina

Carina Wrist Swatch

Carina is described on the Anastasia site as a "hot pink." I definitely love the color, I held it next to both Kat von D Bachelorette and Berlin and they did not match, which is a good thing! The texture for this shade was more like a NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream than an actual liquid lipstick, but it applied nicely. I needed two coats for an even, solid color. The lipstick took a few minutes to dry down from the cream consistency to tacky, then to completely dry.

There was some small amount of transfer to my coffee cup initially, but not much. throughout the day though, more transfer began on the inner portion of the lips, which is expected. However, this formula had a tendency to bunch up and then flake off, leaving completely bare patches on the lips! I tried the 'press lips together to re-blend product' trick, but this just made the problem worse. I wore this with my tried and true MAC Prep and Prime lip, so I am not sure if the lipstick formula clashed with the primer formula, but then I went to remove the lip color, I could flake and remove solid chunks of color and product off my mouth. Pretty gross. The color did leave a stain though. I also did not experience any feathering, or gathering of the color into lip lines. The product has a weird lipsticky smell that fades pretty quickly.

Pros:

  • Not exactly drying?
  • Creamy consistency
  • Pigmented
  • No feathering
Cons
  • Lipstick smell
  • Some transfer
  • Weird flaking/clumping/something issue that was not very appealing

  1. I'm going to skip these and get the Sephora ones instead - I really like those!
